DKI JAKARTA PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT PREPARING SOCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE POOR AND THE VULNERABLE COMMUNITIES IN JAKARTA DURING THE LARGE-SCALE SOCIAL RESTRICTION PERIOD

DKI Jakarta became the first province to enforce Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) policy in order to accelerate the suppression of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic. The enforcement of PSBB is pursuant to the Decree of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. HK.01.07 / Menkes / 239/2020 regarding the Enforcement of Large-Scale Social Restriction in DKI Jakarta to Accelerate the Suppression of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), and will be effective starting on Friday, April 10th, 2020.

In this regard, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared some strategies including preparing social assistance program to deliver food for the poor and vulnerable communities affected by the new policy and the potential deterioration of economic conditions due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Jakarta. This was conveyed by the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan at the City Hall of DKI Jakarta after a coordination meeting and Large-Scale Social Restriction policy review with Forkopimda, on Tuesday evening (7/4).

"The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will work alongside the national government in preparing social assistance for the poor and vulnerable communities affected by the enforcement of Large-Scale Social Restriction or PPSB and the deterioration of economic conditions due to the COVID-19 epidemic. DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in collaboration with the National Army and the Regional Policy will start facilitating the food distribution to densely populated neighborhood and the needed area on Thursday. We wish to alleviate the impact (of the policy) for the poor and the vulnerable communities," explained Governor Anies.

Governor Anies further elaborate that the social assistance of food distribution would be organized by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in collaboration with the Army and City Police. The food distribution will be provided for free to all targeted members of the society. The distribution will be carried out at the Neighborhood (RW) level in Jakarta.

"This activity will be carried out in compliance to the physical distancing rules and it will be conducted at the neighborhood or RW level. DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and Regional Owned Enterprise in charged of the citizen daily necessities has prepared remote shopping facility under Pasar Jaya. It has been running for couple of weeks now in 105 markets across Jakarta," he said.

Furthermore, Governor Anies also asked the public to comply with the implementation of Large-Scale Social Restriction policy in Jakarta. "We must protect each other. The safety of every citizen will depend on our discipline to restrict our interaction and it is critical to comply with this policy. We all know that to suppress the spread of COVID-19 requires the mutual cooperation of every party. Because the transmission is person to person. That's why it is critical to restrict the interaction between people" he explained.

Governor Anies also said that the DKI Jakarta has enforced the social distancing in Jakarta for approximately 3 weeks. "Classroom activities will continue to be held from home. All public facilities are closed, both government-owned and private owned; (among others) parks, meeting halls, city parks, gym, museums, are all closed," he said.

"The same policy is also applied on socio-cultural activities limitation. Marriage is not prohibited, but it shall be performed only at the Office of Religious Affairs, and all reception must be abolished. Likewise, other celebratory activities such as circumcision ritual or basically most activities will be abolished," Governor Anies added.

To conclude the press conference, Governor Anies repeat his advice for all citizen to comply with the policies that have been set for the greater cause. "The government, in this regard, the provincial government in collaboration with the Army and the City Police, will enforce every step decisively. We will not allow any omission and we will not allow any activities to take place if there is potential for transmission. I cannot stress this enough because it is critical for us to suppress the spread of COVID-19. " Governor Anies concluded.
