In addition to announcing the extended period of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan also appealed to the people to celebrate Ramadhan and its ritual. Ramadan is in conjunction with the PSBB which alters the usual practices and must be in compliance with the applicable rules of PSBB.

"This Ramadhan will be different. For so many of us, including myself and I am sure the Deputy Governor and all of us as well. Ramadhan is the time where we spend most of our time at the mosque. We carry out activities from dawn to tarawih. The mosque will be the center. And fasting this year will be different because we will all be doing it at home," explained Governor Anies at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (22/4).

Not only limited to rituals which centers around the Mosque, but activities which could potentially form crowds are also prohibited such as Iftar and other similar activities. This condition, according Governor Anies, is reminiscent of Ramadhan during the time of the Prophet.

"Ramadan this year may be similar to Ramadan during the time of The Prophet Muhammad. During that time, worship was not conducted at the mosque. Tarawih was at the mosque one time but it quickly shifted to tarawih at home. Iftar at home, worship activities at home, nothing is done at the mosque. This time, we get the chance to start the holy month of Ramadhan in similar atmosphere. This is an opportunity for us," said Governor Anies.

Despite everything must be done from home, Governor Anies suggesting the community to remain motivated and increase piety while fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. "Let's carry out our worship in the holy month of Ramadan by also maintaining the physical distance, preventing transmission of COVID-19. And this is a genuine opportunity for us to measure up. Measure our ability to discipline our desires, our ability to intensify worship," added Governor Anies.

Furthermore, Governor Anies hopes that the holy month of Ramadan during this PSBB can be executed side by side and can teach the public about the new values of piety. "This situation with the extension of PSBB is an opportunity to increase piety in the family. Because everything is performed together. Tarawih will be led by the father. Tadarus with the father and mother. A totally different atmosphere. Hopefully, this becomes the holy month of Ramadan to truly intensify worship in the family," concluded Governor Anies.
