DKI Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, has officially announced the extension of Large-Scale Social Restriction/ Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar (PSBB) in DKI Jakarta for four weeks until May 22nd, 2020. The initial implementation of PSBB in DKI Jakarta was planned for two weeks starting on April 10th to April 23rd, 2020.

"After a thoughtful consideration, The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government with support from the expert on Communicable Diseases and consultations with the Health Office has decided to extend the PSBB period for 28 days. Which means the second period of PSBB will start on April 24th, 2020 and end on May 22nd, 2020.” stated Governor Anies at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday evening (22/4).

Governor Anies expresses his appreciation and gratitude to every element of society within DKI Jakarta for the successful implementation of PSBB and its regulations. However, Governor Anies explained that the ever-growing number of COVID-19 positive cases in DKI Jakarta still persist and it would take some time to overcome it together.

"Even for the past two weeks, many citizens keep disobeying and violating the PSBB rules, companies continues to operate, and people are creating crowd. And as such, If we want this pandemic to quickly subside, we must all agree to execute PSBB with discipline. The more insistent we are staying at home, limiting outside activity, thus reducing interpersonal interaction, the lower the risk of infection and God willing, this pandemic will be diminished soon,” Governor Anies explained.

Governor Anies considers the previous two weeks of PSBB as an educational period and the law enforcers have only been advising and reminding the citizens. Therefore, Governor Anies emphasized that during the extended period or phase two of PSBB there will be massive disciplinary act, working along-side the City Police and Regional Military Commander.

"I genuinely wish that we can all be discipline. And we, at every level of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government with the City Police and the Regional Military Commander will intensify our enforcement during this PSBB period, to companies who continue their operations and to those gathering in large crowd. The past PSBB implementation is considered as an educational period with reminders, advisories because many members of society are still learning and understanding the PSBB and its regulations. Moving forward, there will be no more educational phases or advisory phases. Now we are starting with the enforcement phase.” declared Governor Anies.

Governor Anies particularly addressing companies insist on operating during PSBB other than the exclusive 11 sectors listed in the Governor’s Decree No. 33 of 2020, will be sanctioned. Governor Anies hopes that the aforementioned companies must not insist on operating since it might potentially risk their workers as well as the larger society.

"We have proof on companies that actually led to a positive case and ended up completely halting their entire operations. That is why, I would like remind the citizen to work from home, study from home and pray at home,” he concluded.
